ThermHex Waben GmbH produces thermoplastic polypropylene honeycomb cores for lightweight and high-quality sandwich panels and components on the basis of a worldwide unique, innovative production technology.
The special feature of the patented production process is that, compared to the conventional, discontinuous production of honeycomb cores, it offers a highly automated and uninterrupted production process, enabling honeycomb cores to be produced for the first time as a high-quality mass production product with significant cost advantages.
ThermHex honeycomb cores are produced in-line by extrusion of a film, rotational vacuum forming, unfolding and in-line lamination of the skin materials.
ThermHex honeycomb cores enable considerable weight and material cost savings due to the minimal use of materials and a maximum conservation of resources, thereby supporting the particularly economic production of sandwich elements.
ThermHex honeycomb panels in sandwich construction are used wherever high-quality products with an optimum ratio between strength and weight are required. In the interior fittings of ships or for modern swimming pools, in packaging, furniture and above all in the automotive sector, in truck walls, trunk floors, parcel shelves or door modules - the ThermHex production process makes it possible to use the honeycomb core in applications in which PP honeycomb cores were previously not an option for cost reasons. The extremely lightweight honeycomb cores form the middle layer of lightweight yet extremely rigid sandwich panels that can be combined with various skin materials (plastic, steel, aluminum, paper, wood, natural or glass fiber composite materials) depending on the intended use. They have become indispensable in many industrial sectors. The material efficiency of the sandwich construction with honeycomb core means weight minimization and resource conservation, and combines cost savings with positive effects for the environment.
ThermHex offers honeycomb cores in various cell sizes, thicknesses and densities. ThermHex honeycomb panels have a standard size of 1200x2500mm. Due to the continuous production process a production in endless length is theoretically possible.
Besides the production of honeycomb cores ThermHex has recently started producing a semi-finished sandwich product. Two glass-fiber reinforced polypropylene crossply skin layers are applied in-line and fully automatically to the honeycomb core. The resulting Organosandwich offers weight savings of up to 80% compared to a monolithic construction. Due to the sandwich construction and the thin skin layers, the Organosandwich is considerably stiffer and more cost-effective than an organo sheet. The Organosandwich is thermally deformable and can be functionalized by injection molding. Thus, complex components can be produced.
