Ultralight seat wins Altair Enlighten Award
- Altair Enlighten Award recognizes the greatest successes in reducing vehicle weight each year
- Ultralight seat wins the category "Future of Lightweight Construction"
The ultralight seat of csi entwicklungstechnik, AUTOMOTIVE MANAGEMENT CONSULTING (AMC) and Alba tooling & engineering has won the internationally renowned Altair Enlighten Award 2019 in the "Future of Lightweighting" category.
Only eight weeks after the ultralight seat was awarded the German Innovation Award 2019, the prototype, which weighs around 10 kg, is once again causing a sensation - the Altair Enlighten Award honours highly innovative ideas, processes, materials and technologies in lightweight construction and was presented on August 5, 2019 in Traverse City, Michigan.
The radically innovative lightweight construction strategy of the project initiators csi, AMC and Alba is based on an integrated digital process chain, which made it possible to realize the ultralight seat in only one construction stage. The implementation of the project from the idea to the hardware product took less than seven months thanks to a correspondingly agile project, process and supply chain management.
The highly innovative xFK in a 3D winding process, which uses resin-impregnated continuous fibers for a waste-free, force- and tension-optimized design, provides the major part of the weight reduction. This xFK in 3D process causes a paradigm shift in ultra-lightweight construction, which was optimally used for the digital conception and design of the seat structure - this means a "step change".
In addition to the initiators, who also received awards for their entrepreneurial courage and innovative ability, 3D|CORE, Robert Hofmann GmbH, covestro, LBK and climatex were also involved in the development of the seat. Target markets of the multi-material ultralight seat are hypercars, sports cars and future aviation applications. The ultralight seat thus opens up completely new technical, ecological, economic and social potential in the integrative lightweight automotive construction of the future - encouraging lightweight construction in its purest form.
From 10 to 12 September the ultralight seat will be on show at the Lightrweight Technologies Forum in Stuttgart.
