Development of gfrp-leaf springs for heavy duty trucks
Themes: New Applications
The IFC Composite GmbH is one of the global leading manufacturers of structural parts consisting of endless fibre reinforced plastics (using a thermosetting polymer matrix). therefore, the employed IFC prepreg process is using a hot pressing technique. In the past the production was emphasized on lateral leaf sprigs for light commercial vehicles. Taking advantage of this experience, different prototypes of leaf springs for heavy duty vehicle applications were developed, built and tested over the last few years.
At first, the presentations describes the fully simulation based development process. Afterwards the special features of the hot pressing technique regarding thick-walled component parts are discussed. Also different test procedures are outlined. Finally, it is prospected how simulation techniques also may be introduced for process planning purposes.
