Additive manufacturing offers good prospects for composites industry
The additive manufacturing market offers a promising outlook for the composites industry. According to the analysis, new materials and compounds will remain a key driver for making additive manufacturing a well-established process in the future. Here composites will occupy an exceptional position. This refers primarily to fibre-reinforced powder or filaments, which are only offered to the market in isolated cases and have not been developed to market readiness yet.
Joining composites is truly a challenge since these materials are considered hard to join. Since thermal processes have so far not been applicable researchers have predominantly focused on mechanical joining technologies including crimping, gluing, riveting or screwing.

In the Lightweight Technologies Forum, information is presented on the subject of multi material lightweight construction and hybrid solutions. The development of lightweight material systems will go more on individual material groups and be an optimal configuration of different material components.
