TAFNEX CF-PP UD
Thermoplastic matrices for composite solutions are becoming increasingly popular in various markets. Therefore, thermoplastic composite materials with carbon fibers (CFRTP) based on polar matrices like PA6 have been well developed, whereas non-polar polyolefin based CFRTP (e.g. with PP matrix) still have issues on interfacial surface between carbon fiber and polyolefin matrices, resulting in low durability and low mechanical properties.
Thus, by using the own expertise from LFT compounds (MOSTRON™), the Mitsui Chemicals Group developed the new product TAFNEX™ CF-PP UD, a unidirectional fiber reinforced tape based on carbon fibers and PP with specially developed fiber bonding technology. In addition, the PP matrix compound has been modified during the development. Overall, this results in very good fiber-matrix adhesion and consequently high mechanical properties.
Feasibility processing studies have shown the high potential use of TAFNEX™ CF-PP UD for the automotive and sports industry.
